![]() USB connections are handled via internal hubs, so it is possible that, if you have other USB devices connected, your external disk is still competing for power. However, in your case, you seem to be connecting directly to the Mac. Hard disks sometimes tend to be more affected simply because they use more power. This might happen if, for example, you had several devices connected via a hub (i.e, sharing the power from a single USB connection. The most common cause of this is insufficient power, or minor power fluctuations, to the disk. After a few minutes the Lacie was ejected again for no reason!!!! DAMN!!!Īny ideas of what could cause this? Is there a way I can get a report from terminal telling me what happened? Today I connected another USB3 HDD straight into the iMac to backup some stuff from the Lacie. I don't want my files/HDD to get damaged, so I ditched the USB3 extension cable straight away, and bought a proper one at the local store (yesterday). ![]() I bought a cheap USB3 extension cable, so I can put the HDD away from me (noise), and it kept ejecting with no reason whatsoever, causing the "HDD was not ejected properly.". I'm using a 27" 2013 iMac, OSX 10.9.5 and a 3TB Lacie External HDD as my main file storage.
